"When a fan says ‘I really, really want Swan Queen to become canon because they’re two strong, dynamic, beautiful women who have an important role on their show and I think it’s about time that the morals of fairytales expanded to include same-sex couples in their definition of True Love, too’, they don’t want to hear that it’s not going to happen because it would be too weird. Because that is the very thing that they are hoping to discourage. ‘Oh you crazy people, you don’t really think they’ll let your gay delusions come true, do you? This isn’t a show about being gay, ergo, there shouldn’t be anything gay on it, because homosexuality is not normal’. When people argue that a show will never make a character pursue a same-sex romance because they do not fit a queer stereotype, or because it’s a family show, or because the character is too important – that is the point. We have gay stereotypes in our media. We have risqué shows about the drama of being LGB. But we have very, very few shows where someone can just be queer and be themselves and do other things that do not revolve around their sexuality. We have very few stories where queer people are just people who happen to be queer, and therein lies the appeal of taking a character who is not initially presented that way and then allow them to explore a same-sex relationship. Because if Dean Winchester hooks up with Castiel, the show is still going to be about fighting monsters. The idea is not to turn Supernatural into Queer as Folk; the idea is to have Supernatural be Supernatural, and let some of the characters be not straight on it at the same time."

Ugandan model Kiara Kabukuru in an editorial for Elle (US) in June 1994 titled ‘Field Of Dreams’ and photographed by Gilles Bensimon in Marrakech, Morocco.
This is one of my most favourite fashion editorials as rarely do we see these carefree ‘shoots involving dark-skinned black women, and whenever Western magazines shoot in foreign locations involving local subjects in the ‘shoot, they are often merely used as agent-less props which is not the case in this spread.
There’s also the inclusion of Africans of different hues in an African location, which I love.
However, I’m yet to discover the name of Kabukuru’s photoshoot partner.

One Size Fits All
- (A man comes to the counter and places two dresses on the counter: one sized XS and one sized XXL.)
- Me: “Are these dresses both for the same woman?”
- Customer: “Yes.”
- Me: “Oh, okay. These are both very different sizes, so they are not likely to fit the same person. What size does she usually take?”
- Customer: “Um… I’m not sure.”
- Manager: “Well, does she look more like me or more like her?”
- (Note: my manager is quite small, and I am quite big.)
- Customer: “Um… uh… I’m sure these will be fine.”
- Me: “Sir, because the price is marked down on these dresses they will be Final Sale, so you will not be able to return them if they are not the right size. Are you sure we can’t help you?”
- (The customer looks around furtively, then leans in close so that only my manager and I can hear what he is saying.)
- Customer: “These dresses are for me, actually.”
- (My manager looks at me, and I at her, and then she turns to the customer and speaks a very matter of fact voice.)
- Manager: “Why don’t you go try them on, then?”
- Customer: “Really? Would that be okay with you?”
- Manager: “Of course! Let me get you started with a fitting room.”
- (I spend the next hour bringing this man dresses to try on and he had a lovely time! He introduced himself to me and thanked us profusely for being so understanding and helpful. He left with four dresses, all of which fit him to a tee, and he came back regularly after that.)
